Ergo Proxy is a twenty-three
episode anime series produced by Manglobe in 2006. Highly influenced by complex
philosophical ideals, it is a unique tale of one man's journey to discover
who he is and in turn, to free the world of its shackles. Plus there's a loli
robot and a love interest who has apparently stolen Amy Lee's face. All the
more reason to watch, if you ask me. It was licensed and distributed in English
by Geneon before their demise.
In a post-apocalyptic world, the domed city of Romdeau is home to both humans and android slaves (AutoReivs). Although appearing to be a city of perfect order, it is truly a place of conspiracy and distopia. While investigating a murder, Re-l Mayer from the Citizen Information Bureau is drawn into the dark web of mysterious beings known as "Proxys". Dun dun dun.
The nineteen
year old grand-daughter of Romdeau's Regent (Donov Mayer), Re-l works as an
inspector for the Citizen Information Bureau with her AutoReiv partner, Iggy.
She is an aloof individual with a priviliged background and in many ways,
a self-centered philosophy. Used to her ordered and refined world, she finds
it difficult to understand the areas outside Romdeau. Although a petulant
woman, Re-l is highly intelligent and physically capable. Her inquistive nature
leads her to becoming Vincent's companion on his journey to Moscow.
Re-l's citizen code is "re-1124C41+" (real one to foresee for one) which is a reference to Ralph 124C 41 by Hugo Gernsback. Re-l's physical appearance is based on that of musician Amy Lee/Hartzler (Evanescence), specifically her look on the cover of the band's 2003 album, "Fallen" (see here.)
Re-l is voiced by Saitou Rie (jp) and Megan Hollingshead (en).
The purpose of this fanlisting is to catalogue fans of ergo proxy's plucky heroine from all over the world. So if you like Re-l's character and want to register your fandom please feel free to join.
